Why it's important
SUN introduced a network file system (NFS) allowing drives containing files to be physically remote from the host but appearing to be local. Initially support was provided by general purpose SUN computers acting as “file servers;” Auspex pioneered the use of specially designed and dedicated file servers, today called Network Attached Storage (NAS) and the second largest segment of the storage subsystem market
